About

I want to tell you a bit about how I work as an artist and what inspires me. I invite you to explore my site and take a look at my work, especially my
Native American Series and Traveler Series.

Woman walking on water painting on easel by Dan Marsh.jpeg

My medium is oil on canvas. I love the organic feel of it. My first experience with oil paint was painting boats. Both the family boat my father built and boats I painted in marinas during college. I did do some water colors for fashion design while at Fashion Institute for Technology.

Black and white painting on easel womans face by Dan Marsh.jpeg

I’ve been asked many times, “why black and white?” I’m fascinated by the shading, tonal values, and contrasts that can be produced by the infinite combinations of black and white. However, I do love the whole color spectrum and plan to create more color landscapes.

Artist Dan Marsh Shenandoah Mountains.jpeg

Twice a year I retreat for a ten day sabbatical to the mountains to mediate, pray, relax and, of course, paint! And while I don’t necessarily paint landscapes, I allow the mood of the mountains and its natural inhabitants to move me and guide my brush.
